PMM MISMATCH FRAME LAYOUT
· When rendering a submaster: The submaster may be overlapping another submaster
or filler. Trim the submaster.
· PAL and NTSC media may be mixed in the same sequence and the user is attempting
to apply or render an effect
PMM_MISMATCH_IMAGE_DIMENSIONS
· When attempting to create a Video Mixdown: Make sure the Compression Tool
matches the resolution of the material to be mixed down.
· Try loading the sequence into the Source monitor and cutting into the Record
monitor
PMM NO MEDIA
· See Tech Note 34
· When Batch Digitizing a sequence created from an EDL: If there are AUX or Black
tape names you may get this message. Replace them in Vantage.
· This can happen trying to play sequences in which clips have been deleted from the
bins. Had a customer who deleted 4 "audio only" clips in order to relog and
redigitize them with video. They had been laid into the sequence as the "audio only"
clips.
· Can also happen when you unlink a clip, change its number of tracks, and relink it
PMM_SAMPLE_RATE_MISMATCH_ERROR
· Check VSD and Audio Interface for proper settings and cabling.
· Make sure black burst is feeding the VSD.
· Delete Digisetup file.
· Replace DigiSystem_INIT.
PMM_SYNC_FAILURE

PMS RESTART OUT OF RANGE
· See Tech Note 36
· Can be caused by a corrupt bin

· When adding over 8 channels in the deck configuration setting: Try deleting the site
settings and then quitting and re-entering the project.

· Try replacing the DigiSetup file
· ADM refers to the Audio Device Manager
PRELOAD DONE
· When scrubbing in 5.10: Try switching the audio scrub parameters for the record
side from 1/0 to 0/1. Fixed in later releases.
· When trying to open a project: customer had moved a bin to the desktop; returning it
to the project folder fixed the problem.
· Can also be caused by a corrupt sequence: try retrieving a previous version from the
Attic.
· Once fixed by swapping ATM board on a NewsCutter system
PRELOAD TOO SMALL:JPEG CONSUMER
· Can be caused by a loose/disconnected Janus/ABVB ribbon cable
· Is Janus board seated properly?
· Try deleting media and redigitizing
· Try deleting MC State file

· When leaving effect mode after creating a 3D effect: Check the SVI.CF version.
· When leaving effect mode after creating a 3D effect: Check Pinnacle revision.
QUICKTIME LIB COULD NOT BE FOUND
· Make sure Quicktime Power Plug is installed in the Extensions folder
· If Media Composer’s memory allocation is set too high, there may not be enough
RAM available for the system to initialize the Powerplug.
RANGE SPECIFIED FOR DUP IS OUTSIDE RANGE OF COMPONENT
· When consolidating a sequence: Try reducing the handle length.
· Try performing a Video Mixdown on the problematic area

RAW MOUSE

· Can be caused by a conflict with a Turbo Mouse Control Panel: Remove it. (You
should still be able to use the Turbo Mouse.)

· Has been fixed by reloading System software
· When trying to open a 6.5 bin in EDL Manager version 1.7: fixing by using EDL
Manager version 1.9.
REPAIR, SIMPLIFYING TRANSITION
· See tech Note 142
· When making or importing an EDL: There is something in the sequence that cannot
be accurately represented in the EDL. Narrow down the problem area and change it.
RESOLUTION NOT AVAILABLE ON SYSTEM
· When trying to render a 5.5 sequence that had been redigitized into 6..01: Try
reimporting graphics files.
RESOLUTION NOT SUPPORTED
· Try rerunning the System Key
· Can occur when loading material digitized using an E resolution on a system that
doens’t support E resolutions
· Can be caused by a bad or loose Dongle
· Try recreating title media
· Check for missing supporting files.
RESOURCE FILE NOT FOUND
· Error in MacsBug after launching Media Composer: Customer had moved Media
Composer application icon to desktop.
RRRLE ALPHA TOO BIG
· When importing a PICT with an alpha channel (generally, a gradient) that is too
complicated: Import the PICT and alpha channel separately and reassemble as a matte
key in Media Composer. You can also try blurring the alpha channel in Photoshop or
creating the gradient in the Title tool.
· Can also be caused by gradients created in Title Tool; try reducing the size of the
gradient element.
SA MOB
· When try to make a Cut List: Make sure all clips and subclips have Key Numbers.
SA TEXT BUF
· When printing Cut Lists: Try printing one list at a time.
SAMPLENUM>=0 MFM PRODUCER
· Can be caused by a corrupt clip in a sequence
SAX EVENT SANITY
· When creating an EDL: Try removing PICTs from sequence.
SBV OVERRUN
· When trying to digitize: Is the deck supported?
SBV UNKNOWN COMMAND
· When trying to digitize: Is the deck supported?
· After crashing while digitizing: Try removing deck control cable and reconfiguring
deck.
· Try recreating Deck Configuration setting or creating a new user
SCSI -7932 ERROR
· When launching a PCI system with MediaShare: AVIDstripe INIT is required for PCI
MediaShare systems (even though the drives aren’t striped). The INIT is not required
when working with NuBus MediaShare.
SENSE KEY ERRORS
· Troubleshoot as drive/SCSI problem
SF CONS VIDEO TIMEOUT
· See RRRLE ALPHA TOO BIG
· When trying to play video: Once fixed by reseating the Janus board.
· Check Janus/gasket ribbon cable
· When trying to play a sequence with 3D effects: Check “pizza box” to Macintosh
SCSI cable
· Try disabling effects hardware
SIGNAL FREQUENCY IS OUT OF RANGE
· Can be caused by digitizing with a Hi–Res monitor connected to the NuVista card:
Use the monitor as Bin monitor.
S I/O TIMED OUT
· Refers to Serial In/Out
· Troubleshoot as No Driver problem: Check the serial cable, run CommCloser, cycle
VLAN/VLX power, check Serial Tool setup, etc.
· May also be caused by too small a Preroll (Deck settings)
SLNT REMOVE (STUFF>ELEMENT, STUFF>SLOT)==NO ERR
· Once fixed by reseating ABVB
SM DF-NDF MISMATCH
· When trying to digitize: roll tape so Composer can see correct timecode

· When trying to consolidate: Did customer adjust volume/pan for master clips directly?
Fixed in 7.02.

· When Batch Digitizing: Make sure the timecode format of the logged clips matches

SPURIOUS INTERRUPT
· When clicking on menu bars: Can be caused by a bad NuVista card.
STARTING TIME DOES NOT EXIST ON THIS MEDIA
· May occur in AudioVision when clips are digitized with a starting timecode of under
2 seconds
STREAM ILLEGAL OBJECT VERSION
· Once occured when a 5.10 non-drop sequence was brought into 5.51 68k and cut
into a drop frame sequence; fixed by bringing drop frame version of the 5.10
sequence forward.
· When trying to open bins in MediaLog: Make sure bins do not contain sequences,
effects, or subclips.
SYSMSG-2176 ACCESS ERROR
· When trying to access a volume in MediaShare F/C: Try deleting all profiles and
clearing all volume management info.
TC_DESC
· Can be caused by corrupt timecode or User or Project setting
· Try deleting MC State
TCDSC=(*DECK NODES)
· The project may not correctly identify a deck as being NTSC or PAL: Try using the
BVUHforcePAL or BVUHforceNTSC Console commands
TC_UNEXPECTED PHYSMOB
· When trying to batch digitize: Try creating a new user.
TDVR UNKNOWN CMND
· When making a Digital Cut: Deck may need a VLX.
THE DISK MC INSTALLER CANNOT BE USED
· The floppy disk may be write–protected

· When trying to import a QuickTime movie: Try resaving the movie in MoviePlayer.

THIS VOLUME IS UNREADABLE...EJECT OR INITIALIZE
· When drives are mounting during bootup; often happens when drives are “hot
swapped.” Use the following procedure:
1. Choose to eject the partitions receiving the error.
2. Try and mount the drives in ADU. You’ll receive a disk error and won’t be able to
mount the drives.
3. Try and verify the drives (including any duplicate partitions) in Disk First Aid. The
drives should now appear on the desktop.
4. Run Disk Doctor twice on the drives, skipping the bad blocks test. Disk Doctor should
repair everything, although you may still have duplicate partitions on the desktop.
5. Reboot and rebuild the desktop. The drives should now be back in working order.
· Done in this order, this procedure works 80% to 90% of the time. If the procedure
doesn’t work, you may have to perform a destructive test and repartition.
TIFF UNKNOWN BITESEX
· Try rebuilding Media Databases
· Retrieve a copy of the bin from the Attic
TIMED OUT ATTEMPTING TO START AUDIO BOARDS
· When trying to digitize: DigiSetup may be missing.
TIMEOUT WAITING FOR TRANSPORT RESPONSE
· When trying to Batch Digitize: May be caused by bad timecode on a tape.
· When trying to Batch Digitize: Once fixed by swapping decks.

· Can be caused by a corrupt effect: Delete and remake.

· Can be caused by Unlinking and Modifying clips that are used in a sequence
· When trying to make an EDL: May be caused by corrupt clips. In one case, some
clips were missing clip names and timecodes.
TRANSPORT COMMUNICATION ERROR
· Once fixed by a new User setting
· Make sure Sync Mode (Deck settings) is set for Source Lock
TRANSPORT ERROR ON DIGITAL CUT
· Try switching Sync Mode in Deck settings to Source Lock
TRANSPORT REPLY ERROR
· When launching, AV gets to the 'Initializing Decks' window and produces the error:
· When launching AudioVision: Can be caused by 422 being routed through patchbay;
Try launching again.

· Can occur if the QuickTime movie you’re exporting exceeds the 2 GB file size limit

· Make sure sequence name does not have a colon in it
· Try splitting sequence in two parts

· When trying to import a QuickTime movie over a network: Try importing the movie

· When importing a QuickTime movie using the Avid codec: Try removing any filler
from the video track.
UNABLE TO FIND AVX PLUGINS
· When launching Media Composer: Fixed by deleting MC state.
UNABLE TO FIND RUNLENGTH ENCODED ALPHA TRACK
· When trying to play an imported PICT sequence with an alpha channels: Put a nonrealtime
Matte key on the clip and render.
· Try Recreate Title Media
· If Recreate Title Media doesn’t work, enter into titles and resave them
· Make sure the AVR of any imported graphics matches the AVR of your sequence
· There may not be enough RAM available for Recreate Title Media to work
· Has also been caused by corrupt audio files
UNABLE TO FIND VALUE 0 IN MAP
· While importing an edl: May be caused by an event that doesn’t have a source or a
corrupt audio dissolve.
UNABLE TO IMPORT FILE INTO BIN. EXCEPTION, THE REQUIRED QUICKTIME
CODEC COULD NOT BE FOUND
· When importing a QuickTime file; customer had wrong versions of QuickTime and
QuickTime Power Plug (had 2.1, should be using 2.5)
UNABLE TO REMOVE LIST THREAD. RECORD DOES NOT EXIST
· When initializing in Media Composer the last partition of a pair of striped drives: Try
removing At Ease from the System Folder.
· Remove extraneous INITs

VISTA_MISSED_FRAME_ADVANCE
· Make sure switches on Video Slave Driver are set properly
VISTA TIME OUT

· Your drives may need to be connected to the ATTO SCSI bus
· Check SCSI IDs, cables, and termination; see Tech Note 20 for more information on
SCSI.
· May be caused by a problem with the NuVista Card or the JPEG card; reseat cards,
reinstall drivers, and replace the cards if they are faulty. See Tech Note 19 for more
information on reseating cards and reinstalling drivers.
· Try rendering effects
· Check for feedback loop
· When rendering: Try using a different target drive.
· Try disabling Mandrill or Python boards
VOLMSG-2035
· When trying to access a volume in MediaShare F/C: Try deleting all profiles and
clearing all volume management info.

· Once fixed by trashing MC State

creating files. Try a new project and new bin.

· When trying to save a Title: Make sure the title name does not include a colon.

· Check Compression Tool, Drive Filtering
· Try recreating title media
YOU HAVE DUPLICATE DCMDS NAMED LEAKS
· When installing an Expansion Chassis: Try updating the Chassis ROM.
YOU HAVE JUST ENCOUNTERED A BUG
· When launching Media Composer: May occur if more than 120 MB of RAM has
been allocated to Media Composer.
